Guard Dog Security runs its online store on Shopify. Over time, the site's organization started working against it. URLs weren't built around the keywords people search for, collections were hard to navigate, and Google Search Console reported errors that kept pages from indexing properly.
Guard Dog Security brought in team UncannyCS to handle both sides of the problem. Our SEO and development teams worked together on website structure, technical SEO, navigation, and storefront functionality. The goal was simple. Make the site easier for search engines to read and easier for shoppers to move through.
Problem at Hand

URLs and Navigation Were Not Built Around Search
Page titles, collection URLs, and slugs did not reflect relevant keywords. The category structure also needed a clearer hierarchy, so both shoppers and search engines could tell how the store was organized.

Search Console Was Flagging Indexing Errors
The site had pages marked as Crawled, Currently Not Indexed and Discovered, Currently Not Indexed. On top of that, canonicalization issues, duplicate URLs, 404 errors, redirect pages, and robots.txt issues compounded the problem. Each one made it harder for Google to trust and index the right pages.

Duplicate Product URLs Were Piling Up
Moving through collections created extra product URLs for the same item. Old URLs also needed proper redirects, and Shopify’s .atom collection URLs needed a closer look.

The Collection Structure Was Complex
Many collections had to be mapped into clear categories. The mega menu needed updated URLs, and navigation had to work on desktop, tablet, and mobile.

The Homepage Needed Promotional Add-ons
The client wanted a popup that looked right on every screen. The announcement bar also needed changes based on their feedback.

Cart Drawer Was Working Inefficiently
Cart drawer issues needed investigation and a fix, since the cart is where a shopper’s decision turns into an order.
Uncanny’s Solution - Shopify SEO and Development for Guard Dog Security

URL Restructuring and On-Page SEO
We started with keyword research and a review of competitor URLs. Based on that, we updated URLs, slugs, and page titles; reorganized collection URLs and the navigation hierarchy; and refreshed the affected footer links.

Google Search Console Error Resolution
We reviewed each indexing and canonicalization issue, studied the affected URLs, and chose the right fix for each one. This covered 404 pages, redirects, robots.txt problems, and indexing errors. We then reviewed every affected URL to confirm the fixes held.

Redirects and Duplicate URL Management
We prepared and updated the 301 redirect mapping sheet, and found the right destination pages for URLs returning 404 errors. We also investigated the duplicate product URLs and the .atom collection URLs, then put the required changes and redirects in place and reviewed them.

A Responsive Mega Menu and Better Collections
We built and reorganized collections for the main categories, then developed the mega menu with updated URLs. We improved the menu for desktop, tablet, and mobile. We also fixed mobile menu functionality and tested it across devices.

Homepage Popup and Announcement Bar
We designed and built the homepage popup for desktop and mobile, with updated images and promotional design. We redesigned the announcement bar based on the client’s feedback.

Cart Drawer Fix
We studied how the cart drawer behaved, made the necessary correction, and tested the result to deliver a seamless experience for end users. It further improved the overall conversion rate per customer.

Technical SEO Issues Investigated and Fixed
We reviewed indexing, canonicalization, 404, redirect, and robots.txt issues one by one. We put the relevant fixes in place and checked every affected URL afterward.
